Ryan Edward Hill, 32, also known as "Ryan Raceday Hill" of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Indiana, PA., died Wednesday Oct 19, 2016, at the Fairview Hospital as a result of pulmonary embolism with heart failure related to a recent illness.
The son of the late Edward M. Hill and Peggy (Snyder) Hill Bell, he was born Aug 23, 1984, in Indiana, PA.
Mr. Hill was a graduate of the Indiana Area High School, class of 2003. He attended Penn State University where he received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering.
Ryan had been employed by Swiger Coil Systems Wabtec Company as a quality performance systems coordinator. He also began working with the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course as a control rider instructor via performance Track Riding School. He was a former employee of Lowes of State College and Indiana and Arthurs Tractors, Indiana.
As a child, Ryan participated in multiple sports and enjoyed remote control cars and airplanes with his dad. He began racing with Motoseries and was a member of N2 track days, The Misfits Endurance Racing Team and The Academy of Model Aeronautics for remote control airplanes. He enjoyed rebuilding and modifying Xboxes, computers and motorcycles. Surviving are his mother, Peggy (Snyder) Hill Bell, and husband Dave Bell, Greensburg, his sister Paula and husband Michael Aliers, South Carolina; a stepbrother, David and wife Andrea,; stepsisters Darlene, Sharon and Elisa; niece Jordan; grandniece Brailen, of Louisiana; nephews Brennan and Rowan, South Carolina; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding Ryan in Death were his father, Edward Hill; and grandparents Grant and Leatha Snyder and Wendell Earl and June Hill. Ryan will live on via organ donation and in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Ryan's life and the impact he had on the racing community will be held at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, at a date to be later announced. Locally, friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the John Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana, Additional viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday with the funeral service to immediately follow in the Lefdahl Chapel with the Rev. Micah McMillen, officiating, Interment in the Greenwood Cemetery will be private.
(THE STORY OF THE NICK NAME "RACEDAY") It was relayed at the funeral service by one of Ryan's close racing friends, that Ryan was motorcycle racing at one of the tracks one day, and had a terrible crash on one of the curves. The crash separated him from his motorcycle and he went tumbling, knocking him unconscious. The medical crew and all his fellow racers rushed to the scene. As he was waking up, the medical crew asked him if he knew what track he was at, he replied correctly, then they ask him what day it was, he responded, "Raceday". That's were the nick name was born and used though out his racing career.
