Sharon (Fetterolf) Hoover, 69, overcame the effects of Alzheimer's disease and a debilitating stroke and entered into the perpetual light of eternal rest by the Grace of God Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle. She was born Jan. 8, 1947, in Sunbury, a daughter of Frank and Shirley Hudson Fetterolf. She grew up in Johnstown, where she graduated from Westmont High School, Class of 1964. She attended Susquehanna University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, and earned the Master of Education from Millersville University. After pursuing a teaching career, she entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, earning a Master of Divinity in 1998. Ordained by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, she served as associate pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, and pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Hampton. She made several mission trips to churches in El Salvador and the Konde Diocese in Tanzania.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Camp Hill. A person of great generosity and a gentle spirit, she brought love and grace into the lives of everyone who knew her. She loved to laugh, sing in a beautiful soprano voice and serve the needs of others in any way she could. She was devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. B. Penrose Hoover, of New Cumberland; a daughter, Susan Stewart, of Camp Hill; a son, Steven Vak, of Greensburg; a brother, Donald Fetterolf, of Kissimmee, Fla.; as well as three grandchildren.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at PARTHEMORE FUNERAL HOME, 1303 Bridge St., New Cumberland. Additional visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011, where the service of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Virginia Cover presiding. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, at the convenience of the family.
