Samuel Harris “Sammy” Daniel, age 67, of Jasper County, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Piedmont Newton in Covington.

Sammy Daniel was born in Madison, Georgia to Flora Belle Keith Daniel and the late Harris Wheeler Daniel. He graduated from Social Circle High School in 1967. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Daniel.

Sammy Daniel served proudly in the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army during 1969-1971. During 1969 -1970, stationed in Vietnam, he served in three campaigns which were the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord, Fire Base Jack and Battle of the A Shau Valley. He received several decorations including the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars.

He loved to fish, laugh and spend time with his grandchildren. He attended Red Oak United Methodist Church in Covington. He worked as an insurance salesman for National Life Insurance Company for ten years. Before retirement, he worked in residential construction with his brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Rebecca “Becky” Allen Daniel of Jasper County; daughters, Heather (Bryan) Jones of Jackson and Nikki (Matt) Haymons of Newborn; grandchildren, Brooks Jones, Bennett Jones, Harrison Haymons and Mattie Belle Haymons; mother, Flora Belle Keith Daniel of Athens; sisters and brothers, Dianne (Bill) Gordon of Athens, Donnie (Freda) Daniel of Forsyth, Lynda Bullock of Athens, Joey (Nadine) Daniel of Lake Oconee, Terry (Peggy) Daniel of Forsyth, and Greg (Rebecca) Daniel of Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, Sharon Daniel of Taylors, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 11:00 A.M., at Red Oak United Methodist Church. Hwy 36, Covington, Georgia 30014. Interment will be held in Talmadge Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Andy Cunningham will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 29, 2016, from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M., at Red Oak United Methodist Church in Covington.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Red Oak United Methodist Church 15105 Hwy 36, Covington, Georgia 30014.

Jordan Funeral Home (Monticello, Georgia) is in charge of arrangements.
