He was born Jan. 26, 1938 in Granite City, IL to Irene (Click) Wilkinson of Granite City and the late William Kessler.
On June 9, 1957 he and Betty R. Owens were married in Granite City. She survives in Collinsville.
Mr. Kessler was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran and served 21 years before retiring. After the military, he worked as a technical writer for many companies, including: McDonnell-Douglas, A.O. Smith, Allison, Northrup Grumman and Rolls-Royce. He was a member of American Legion Post #307, Masons and had served on the Citizens Police force while living in TN.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 4 daughters: Letty Yuvienco of Collinsville, Karyn (Michael) Johns of Collinsville, Jodi (Carl) Berry of Lebanon, IL and Candi (Mark) Strehl of Granite City; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren: and a sister-in-law, Donna Kessler of Granite City.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda "Mendy" Sue Anderson, a brother, Monte Kessler and a sister, Rita Schiber.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Mon. Oct. 24, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Jeffrey Holtman as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road.
