Norman Ernest Swope, 86, passed quietly away in his sleep May 13, 2016 at Altercare of Hartville. He was born on October 25, 1929 to the late Ernest and Thelma (Sypherd) and was an Akron area resident his entire life. Norman was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the VFW Post 3383 where he spent many years volunteering on the post’s military honor guard. He was retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. During his years with the Boys Scouts of America, he was not only a scout and leader but also taught first aid for 17 years. Norm’s favorite pastimes over the years included bowling, golfing, diving, watching his beloved Green Bay Packers and traveling to warm weather climates.

Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Doris (nee Wilson), brother, Robert and sister, Nola Baumgardner, he will be sadly missed by children, Cindy (Wayne) Agness of WA, Jeff Swope of MD and Karen (Jeffrey) Taucher of Uniontown; grandchildren, Kevin (Chiara), Jordan (Phoebe and daughter, Marley) and Spencer (Sydney); great grandchildren, Gabriella and Sofia; sister, Marcia Heller; special friends Sue McDermott and Dan Mason(MD) as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Inurnment with military honors will be Monday, June 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery
