like any person... spellings and usage of his name vary... social security has it as Marian Boydjohn Garrett (as this requires a birth certificate or Bible entry with various witnesses, I tend to go with this spelling of his name)
whereas.. he Used Boyd as his name (marion being a "girlish" name at the time)
he gave 'Boyd Marion Garrett' to the military lists.. (these not requiring a birth certificate) as I have found several registrations to be in correct not actually being filled out by the person because they could barely read and write..
as my cousin preferred to use his middle name 'Boyd' like so many people (my grandfather included) the true spelling may have been lost on others... I will use the Social security listing until I find a True birth Certificate

MARION “BOYD” GARRETT

Marion Boyd Garrett, 84, originally from Henryetta, OK and resident since 1950 of Livermore, CA died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at ValleyCare Hospital, Pleasanton, CA. Boyd was born on January 29, 1922.

Boyd loved to be surrounded by his family which includes 4 generations in Livermore. He is remembered fondly by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for entertaining them by playing his guitar and singing his favorite country songs, as well as for his “down-home” wit.

He was a veteran of WW II serving 3 years; 18 months of which was in the Pacific Theater, mostly at Guadalcanal. He mustered out as a Motor Machinist Mate, 2nd Class, USN. He was a member of the International Association Machinists Union Local 1546 for over 50 years.

Boyd married Geneva Henley on Aug. 9, 1945 in a double ceremony with her brother, Kenney Henley and Eva Jo Fletcher.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva, two sons, Darryl B. Garrett and Jimmie and wife, Linda Garrett, four grandchildren, Darryl T. Garrett (Carolyn), Amie Spruiell (Scott), Clinton Garrett (Andrea), and Dale Garrett, and 5 great grandchildren, Mitchell Garrett, Tori, Wesley, Garrett and Clay Spruiell, and Jackson B. Garrett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Garret and Minnie Mae Hotchkiss Garrett, a brother, William “Bill” Garrett, a sister, Myrtle “Bobbie” Blanchard, baby brother Jessie Wesley Garrett, and baby sister Ella Mae Garrett.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at Callaghan Mortuary from 4 pm to 7 pm.

A service will be Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at Celebration Christian Center at 1 pm followed by a graveside service will honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Reception to follow at Celebration Christian Center, 1135 Bluebell Ave., Livermore, CA. Arrangements by Callaghan Mortuary.
