Keizer - Jim Ammon, 88, of Salem died Wednesday, June 22 in his sleep at Avamere Court in Keizer, Oregon. Born in Albany, Oregon to Henry and Mary (Theissen) Ammon, he was one of their ten children, two died young.

He attended Scravel Hill Grade School. Then, transitioned to Albany Union High School finished 9th grade and high school in Albany, graduating in 1945. While in high school he won the "State Farmer Degree" in Future Farmers of America and the "National Jr. Vegetable Grower'.

Jim attended Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Education. He took 1 year and two terms off to save money to complete his degree. After graduation, he taught Biology and Future Farmers of America (FFA) for a few years in Corbett, Oregon. He was actively involved in agriculture in the Willamette Valley. In 1954, he went to work as a fieldman at Blue Lake Packers. In 1960, he took a position with Polk County Extension Service as an extension agent for two years. In 1962, he transferred to Marion County to work in the same role until 1967. In 1967, he went to work as the field superintendent for seven years at Blue Lake Packers/AgriPac. Semi-retired he continued to work summers at Stokely Van Camp and National Frozen Foods in Albany.

In 1945, he met Lois Larsen in Albany. They were married on August 23, 1947. They had three children Dawn, Bob, and Jim. Each had their own families. He will be remembered as a warm and loving friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

His survivors are Dawn Plotts and husband David of Mill City, Oregon; Bob Ammon and wife Jane of Salem, Oregon; James Ammon and wife Beth of Albany, Oregon; grandchildren: Ken and Melissa Allison; Krista and Kenny Schade; Jamie and Shane Thurston; Kim and Mark Gayman; Nick and Dianna Plotts; Erin Smith; Tom and Jenny Ammon; Erik Ammon and his fiance Danielle Hayward; Ben Ammon; Chris Ammon and Ashley Camhi; Anne Marie and Brian Wright; great-grandchildren: Levi and Kinley Schade; Kodie Allison; Colin and Keilyn Thurston; Jordyn and Avery Gayman; Landon and Emma Plotts; Henry and Casey Ammon; Dante' Ammon; LaDamian Wright.

The memorial service for Jim Ammon will be held at Virgil T. Golden in Salem on July 7th at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, he asked that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
