William Walter Cansler, 82, a longtime resident of Tularosa, died Saturday, December 23, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Cansler was born January 8, 1924 in Dalhart, Texas to William Arthur and Leona (Ritter) Cansler, and had lived in Tularosa since 1936. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war he worked as a carpenter and construction superintendent for 36 years until his retirement. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1245. He was a very gentle and kind man, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoying drinking coffee with his friends at Al-O-Mar Restaurant.

Survivors include his wife Willie Mae Cansler of the family home; a son Mike Skaggs and his wife Mary Kay of Tularosa; three daughters, Leona Marie McCullough of Phoenix, Lorna Jean Nowell and her husband Ronnie of La Luz, and Denise Worley and her husband Jimmy, whom Mr. Cansler loved like a son, of Tularosa; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister Ina Ruth Gililland of Tularosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Delmar, Glen and Robert.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Tularosa with Leslie Danley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Cody McCullough, Josh Nowell, T.J. Skaggs, Kevin Gililland, Jimmy Worley and Mike Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hagee, Joe Pete Woods, Bill Dick Gililland, Ronnie Nowell and Will Skaggs.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
