Helen Marie Clayton Bullock, our dear friend, aunt and cousin, died June 11, 2004 in Holladay, Utah. She was born December 4, 1914 in Richfield, Utah to Archer L. and Marie Sorensen Clayton. When a young child, her family moved to Holladay where she lived most of the rest of her life.

Helen served a mission in California for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devoted member of the church her entire life. Shortly after her return from her mission she enlisted in the US Navy where she served with honor in the intelligence service for three years during World War II.

Helen enrolled at BYU and was graduated with a teaching degree in 1952. She taught school for over 30 years, many of those years at Woodstock Elementary. Her students were her children and she loved them dearly.

Helen married Glendon W. Bullock February 20, 1955. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in November, 1958.

Following her husband's death in 1973, Helen became interested in oil painting. She taught herself and through the years completed over 600 paintings. Most were given away and are now on display in the homes of friends, in hospitals and care centers.

Helen also crocheted many afghans which were donated to charity to serve others. She was generous in donating to the LDS Church, especially the Temple building fund, which was close to her heart.

Helen is survived by a brother Clyde, a sister-in-law Alice Cutler, several nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends who will miss her greatly.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the love and care given by all the staff at Elderly Manor. She loved you all.

As she desired, a graveside service will be held Monday June 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Dr.

Note: Helen Marie Clayton was the daughter of Archer Lynn Clayton and Marie Gyllenskog Sorensen who were married in 1906. Archer and Marie divorced and Marie subsequently married Horace Cutler in 1920. It seems the children took the name of Cutler in subsequent years. I do not know at this point if they were adopted or what the exact circumstances were. Research continues.
