She was born to Fred and Ernestine (Bean) Jacobs on Sunday, May 31, 1925 in Sand Point, Idaho. She attended school in Kellogg, Idaho and later worked 16 years for Lintor Lumber Company.
Betty enjoyed crochet and knitting and volunteered for many years at the Soldotna Senior Center.
Her husband, Ron said, “We moved to Alaska in 1973, seeking adventure. Betty did not want to go back to office work and was hired at Fish and Wildlife Protection as the first female, permanent officer by Al Thompson, eventually retiring in 1986. Sgt. Thompson said that she increased officer productivity by 50%; a fact cited by Governor Jay Hammond and Fish & Wildlife.
Soldotna was her adopted home where she was always willing to help and friend or go to a garage sale. She took great pride in her family. She was a strong lady, full of love.
Betty was preceded in death by her parent, Fred and Ernestine; son, Steve McClain; brother, Fred Jacobs, Jr. and sisters, Ruby Maki and Joan Jacobs.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Walden of Soldotna; sons, Mike McClain of Pinedale, Wyoming and Scott Walden of Kenai, Alaska and daughter, Shanda Walden of Pinehurst, Idaho; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great great-grandson.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be 4PM Saturday, Oct 15, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church, Soldotna, Alaska. A private family inurnment will follow at Soldotna Community Memorial Park.
