Lee McKinney served with the Merchant Marines during World War II. After the war he worked for many years as a restaurant cook in Southern California. He retired in 1971 and moved to Coupeville in 1972, then to Port Orchard in 1979.

He was survived by his wife Minnie of Port Orchard; three daughters, Mrs Cora Cochran of Coupeville, Mrs. Lou (Jeannette) Stevens of Coupeville and Mrs. I. Lilly Lee of Bremerton; and two sons, Harry Lee McKinney of the Bahamas and Howard William Huntley of Coupeville.
