Benjamin H. Hawkins Jr., 90, passed away February 20, 2016. Born in Akron to the late Benjamin Sr. and Blanche (Bolyard), he was a veteran of World War II, earning two prestigious Purple Hearts as an Air Force Staff Sergeant, and was a Goodyear retiree with 42 years of service.

Mr. Hawkins was active in the community as a member of the Chapel of Prayer, the Akron-Coventry Masonic Lodge 83, the Stow VFW, the American Legion, the F.O.P.A. and the Goodyear Foreman’s Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arnold and Floyd Hawkins. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty; children, Bill (Sandi), Cathy (Terry) Williams and Cindy (Doug) Moore; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Bob Cheyney officiating. Interment with military honors at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
