Jeanne Taylor

June 17, 1931 - October 3, 2016
Jeanne Taylor passed away on the evening of October 3, 2016.

Jeanne was born to Chas Briscoe and Clara Ridenhour Briscoe in Holden, Missouri, not far from Kansas City. She attended Holden High School where she was active in many school activities, everything from cheerleading to the Glee Club.

After high school, she attended the Ada Bates School of Drama in Kansas City, Missouri. While studying there, she entered and won the Miss Kansas City Missouri Beauty Contest – the stepping-stone to Miss America where she was runner-up Miss Missouri. This opened the door to many opportunities, including national commercials, three of her own television shows and acting in three movies directed by the legendary Robert Altman.

While doing a promotion for one of her television sponsors in Chicago, she met and married Warren Taylor of Sacramento. After they were divorced she took a position with the Lilli Ann Corp., eventually becoming their head designer and vice president. She worked for Lilli Ann for 35 years before retiring.

Jeanne was presented a commendation by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors honoring her achievements at Lilli Ann and for promoting the garment industry and economic development in San Francisco. The commendation designated April 23, 1996, as Jeanne Taylor Day in San Francisco.

During her employment at Lilli Ann, she married Dr. Alexander Taylor. They were married for five years.

Jeanne was an avid fundraiser for Grace Cathedral and United Religions Initiative. She donated to many of her favorite charities, including establishing a scholarship for the outstanding senior student from her high school, which will be endowed for many years to come.

She sat on the board of Grace Cathedral for many years and chaired many supper dances and spring fundraisers. She was also on the board of Lilli Ann Corp., and designed clothes for many well-known personalities, including Joan Kennedy, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Mrs. Hubert Humphrey and Mrs. Bernice Brown – the wife of former governor Pat Brown. She was a long-standing member of The Most Venerable Order of St. John Hospital in Jerusalem.

Jeanne traveled the world over for both business and pleasure, but always said, "there is no place I'd rather be than in San Francisco." She swore when she retired that she would never travel again, except in an emergency, and she often liked to say, "I won't even travel across either bridge."

Jeanne adored her many friends, family and her beloved dogs.

She is survived by one brother, ten nieces and nephews, and many great-nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by four siblings: Lavoe Briscoe, Elizabeth Eissler, Dorothy Johnson and June Jones.

She will be laid to rest in the Columbarium at Grace Cathedral
