Dora was born February 11, 1923, in LaGrande, Oregon, to Ellery and Levita Herron. On January 23, 1943, Dora married her high school sweetheart, Ernest Brooks.

Ernest was in the Navy on leave at the time and after the wedding, he returned to Pensacola, Florida, where he was stationed. Dora remained in Oregon until she completed her teacher training course at Eastern Oregon State College, then in June 1943, she joined him in Pensacola.

After Ernest's wartime service, they moved to Spokane, Washington, where they lived for about 5 years. In April 1951, she and Ernest moved to Pasco where they raised their family and enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage before Ernest preceded her in death in 2008.

Dora has three sons, Ernest Jr. (Charlotte), Glen Michael (Lorna), both of Pasco, and Barry (Carol) in Omaha, Nebraska. She has 10 grandchildren (Scott, Travis, Mark, Tyler, Kevin, Mike Jr., Dena, Jason, Eddie & Wendy) and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dora was a member of many organizations, including Grange (Columbia Valley, Pomona, State and National), Telephone Pioneers, Mid-Columbia Archeological Society, Tri-City Genealogy Society, Franklin County Historical Society and was a charter member of Riverview United Methodist Church in Pasco.

While Dora was never employed as an educator, she was deeply involved with youth activities in the Jr. Grange for many years. Dora was a devoted mother, following her sons sports activities and was even known to throw the ball with them. She had a huge yard and loved to garden, taking special care of the many beautiful bushes and roses which were starts from her childhood home. She played the piano and loved to sing. Being a member of the church choir with Ernest was one of her greatest joys.

Interment is Monday, June 7th, 2010, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Kennewick followed by a memorial service, at Riverview United Methodist Church, Pasco.
