OBITUARIES:
Richard Albertson, 82, of Kennewick, died April 14 in Kennewick. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived in the Tri-Cities for 63 years. He was a retired conductor for the railroad. Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, Kennewick, is in charge of arrangements. (Source: Tri-City Herald Date: Thursday, April 15, 2010)

Richard K. Albertson passed away due to complications from lung cancer on April 14, 2010. He was 82 years old.

His wife, Julianne, had passed away March 20th, and he said he was ready to be with her. They were married 62 years. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Magelsen (Tom) and Cristine Lacey (Dave), of the Tri-Cities. Mom and dad have seven grandchildren: Ben Magelsen, Julie Burbach, Ryan Magelsen, Leigh Beirley, Laurie Lacey, Chuck Lacey, John Lacey and 28 great-grandchildren.

Dad enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17 and was injured before the end of WWII. He had a lifelong hearing disability from his injuries.

Dad worked for Burlington Northern Railroad (formerly Northern Pacific) for 36 years before an injury forced him to retire. Dad loved to fish and his favorite memories were of fishing trips to the Potholes with mom and the kids. He had a favorite bass hole where they caught 4- to 5-pound fish every year. He made friends easily and stayed friends with his railroad buddies all of his life.

Anywhere he went he started conversations and he especially loved to talk to children. He always smiled and waved to babies in their grocery carts as he went by. He loved his little grandchildren and fondly remembered the funny little things they said.

Dad spent the last few years taking care of mom after she developed Alzheimer's. He never liked being parted from her. He and mom spent their last days with their daughter Linda and her husband Tom in their home. His family was with him when he passed quietly and peacefully away. He said mom was in the room and it was wonderful to see her again. He couldn't wait to be with her permanently.

He will be missed by his family, but we look forward to reuniting with dad and mom one day. A graveside memorial will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park on the corner of 10th and Union in Kennewick.
