Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Roy Eugene French was born March 18, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Harvey Arlington and Annetta Louise (Schafer) French. He entered into peaceful rest on May 14, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Roy attended Bedford Community Schools through the 10th grade, after completing the 10th grade he went to work in Shenandoah. He then came back to Bedford and joined in the family farm while holding a position as manager at the K&K Country Store.

In 1960 Roy was united in marriage to Joyce Marie Thomas. To this union they were blessed with three children, Lori, Karen and Kenny.

In 1980 the family moved to town while Roy was trucking for Dean Hensley. He then later worked at Dean’s Sinclair Station. After the station closed, Roy and Joyce managed the Bristol Manor in Maryville, Missouri. This continued for the next 17 years until their retirement.

Throughout his life Roy enjoyed woodworking, planting and tending to his beautiful flowers, making memories such as camping trips and playing cards, attending “damn good” BBQs with the Foote clan. His favorite card game was “George” where he always had a witty comment no matter whether he was winning or losing. There were rumors between the family that he often cheated. His favorite comment to great grandson Carson when losing was, “Does your belly hurt?”

Left to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife Joyce of 54 years, daughters Lori French and Karen (Chris) Cline, and son Kenny (Tisha) French; grandchildren Colby and Chris (Nicki) Lock, Dylon (Hailee Kelso), Jacob and Carlie French; great grandchildren Carson, Jayla and Cora Lock; brother Edward (Bethel) French, sister Joanne Perdew, sister-in-law Elnora French, sister-in-law Frances (Mike) Murphy, brother-in-law Charles (Connie) Thomas, along with a bushel and a peck of nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, in-laws Everett and Helen Akins, and grandson Grant Ellis French; siblings Bill (Nadine) French, LaVonne (Howard) Weller, J.B. French, Paul “Butch” (Fern) French, and close family friend Ron Sales “Pickle.”

Roy will be truly missed by many. His family meant the world to him. His grandchildren and his great grandchildren were his pride and joy. And you can’t forget the granddog Lulu.
