Robert "Bobby" Dean Clatterbuck was born July 3, 1932, in Columbia, Boone County, Missouri. He was the son of Frank Farest and Lillian Pitts Clatterbuck.

He married July Kyle on July 14, 1951 in Abilene, Texas. They had three children: Floyd Edward, Catherine Ann, and Robert Dean. Bobby died on November 7, 2004 in Hurricane, Utah.

Bobby was a professional football player. He played Quarterback for San Angelo High School then for Angelo State and the University of Houston. He was drafted on the 27th round in 1954 out of Houston to the New York Giants. At the time of the draft he was 6' 3" and 195 lbs. He played for 4 seasons throwing 1032 yards and 18 Touchdowns in 18 games. He was backup to Charlie Connerly in 1956 when the New York Giants won the NFL championship game. His teammates included Hall of famers Frank Gifford, Sam Huff and Roosevelt Brown. The coaching staff included Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry. In 1960 he played for the Los Angeles Chargers, where he played back up quarterback to Jack Kemp.

A story about Bobby was that during one of the first games he was called in against the Cleveland Brown's in which he was called "Green but promising". Bobby was quite nearsighted and wore glasses and contact lenses to correct his vision. When he was unexpectedly called into the game, he realized that he did not have his lenses in, and had to throw "blind". He retrieved his lenses during the break, but they still lost, 16-7.
