Warren Harvey Dean was born the 7th of 9 children of Joseph and Esenoth (Sena) Prouty Dean on December 4, 1838, in Luzerne, New York. He was still living with his family of origin in Luzerne, NY, in 1855 and did not appear on the 1857 MN Territorial Census. In June, 1860, he was listed as living in a hotel in Oronoco, Olmsted County, Minnesota, and the next year, his first child, Frederick, was born. He had married Maria Okins at some point in the previous year, although the date has been lost. Seven children were born to Warren and Maria Dean: Frederick, LeRoy, Lucy, Minnie, Nellie, Charles, and Frank (Joseph Franklin). Warren served as a Civil War veteran (Corporal) with the 1st Minnesota Calvary, Company I, Mounted Rangers. He was mustered on December 1, 1862, and discharged with his company. He farmed near Collins, MN, and remarried after Maria died in 1889 to Emeline Murrey on September 9, 1890, less than a year after Maria had died. Warren moved to Minneapolis and died there at 2918 17th Avenue South, on the evening of March 10, 1899.

From the Minneapolis Tribune, March 12, 1899: W. H. Dean died Friday evening at the age of 60, at his home, 2918 Seventeenth avenue S. after a protracted illness. There will be funeral services at the house this afternoon and Monday the remains will be shipped to Hector, Minn., for internment.
