NoticesJames Omer Locklear, 91, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, in Brady. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery. James was born in Voca, Dec. 6, 1920, to Lon and Georgia (Spiller) Locklear. He attended the Voca Church of Christ. James went to elementary school at the one room schoolhouse on Long Valley Lane and later transferred to Brady High School. He participated in basketball and track with his relay team winning a state title. He had just turned 21 when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He joined the Navy and served from 1942 to December 1945. He married Cleo Carmen Jackson in Brady, Dec. 28, 1947, and they bought a farm in Voca. After their first child was born in 1951, the family relocated to Brady. By 1967, the family was complete with four children. During these years James worked for Loadcraft and then for Texas Mining. He retired from Texas Mining at the age of 65. James was a member of the VFW Post #442. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending track meets and football games, and coffee-time with his friends. He especially loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his grandchildren greatly. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents and two brothers, Joe Locklear and Edward Locklear. Survivors include two daughters, Jamie Leesa Campbell and husband, Jerry, of Marana, Ariz. and Cindy Glenniece Anderson and husband, Carl, of Brady; two sons, Dae Locklear and wife, Teresa, of Benbrook, and Jim Bob Locklear of Brady; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Vanna Booth, who closely cared for James in his last years and numerous nieces and nephews.
