Alexander Stanišauskas was born in 1885 in Geniotas, Tauragė County, Šilalė District, Lithuania, a small farming village near Kvėdarna. He was born Aleksandras Jonas Stanišauskas. He emigrated from Lithuania and arrived in the United States on 26 Dec 1906 settling down in the city of New Haven, Connecticut.

In 1908 Alexander married Elizabeth Gedrim (Gedrimaitė) who was also born in Lithuania. The two would have 8 children together.

By the time of the 1920 Census, Alexander Stanišauskas had Anglicized his name to become Alexander STANDISH, the origin of this particular Standish line in the United States.

Alexander Stanišauskas Standish lived and worked in the New Haven, Connecticut area until his passing on 5 Dec 1939. His death was listed in the 1940 New Haven City Directory. He is buried in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven, CT.
