Gene Myles Black, 84, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville. Born to the late Heyward and Marion Rena Smith Black on March 9, 1932, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he married Jacquelyn Wester Black on September 7, 1958, in Odum, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army and spent his career with Tank Battalions and the JAG Corps. He was a veteran of the Vietnam and Korean conflict and retired as a Sergeant Major with 28 years of service. He was an animal lover.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie W. Black; son and daughter-in-law, Myles Leslie Black and Teresa Coleman of Thomasville; daughters, Lisa Perkins of Indiana and Rebecca Johnson of California; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Odum City Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Webber officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2016, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 675 S. 3rd St., Jesup, GA 31545.
