Edward D. Bates, age 92, of Geneva, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Rae Ann Nursing Home.
Born March 6, 1924, in Footville, Ohio, a son of Charles E. and Martha M. (Shaughnessy) Bates. He served in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Geneva True Temper for 39 1/2 years, and a substitute Custodian for Geneva High School.
He was a member of the Starliners Square Dance Club, Geneva Blue Lodge F&AM; and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He enjoyed making stained glass and camping.
Edward is survived by his wife; Ethel; children, Gary (Darlene) Bates of Tyler, Texas and Darlene (Cecil) Walton of Geneva; grandchildren, Lloyd Walton, Deanna Greenwood, Christel Pardue and Jeffrey Bates; 13 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Donald Bates; and siblings, James, Jerry, Charles, John, Susie, Marilyn, Mary Watts and Dorothy Stoltz.
Calling Hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19th, at WALKER FUNERAL HOME, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, Ohio.
Service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct, 20th, at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Hitchcock, of Geneva First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment at Trumbull Township Cemetery.
