Born in Galesburg, Ill., he was the son of Nelson and Lena Scholl Stegall. On July 6, 1940, he married Gladys M. Lipes in Burlington.
Mr. Stegall was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a division lineman for CB&Q and Burlington Northern railroads for 42 years.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Janet S. Mantia of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Danny E. Stegall and Nelson P. Stegall, both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orville Stegall of Pontiac, Ill., and Phillip Stegall of Monmouth, Ill.; and one sister, Helen Ney of Galesburg, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
The funeral was held at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Tipton officiating.
