Robert Lee Means, Jr., age 54, formerly of Marion, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his residence in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Means was born on September 18, 1963 in McDowell County, NC, to the late Robert Lee Means, Sr. and Joyce Carson Means. He was a member of the Baptist faith and worked as an auditor in the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Means graduated from McDowell High School in 1981 and attended Appalachian State University and he loved reading all kinds of medical books. He really enjoyed cooking and his specialty was delicious omelets. Mr. Means also loved playing board games, especially backgammon and chess and he was a devoted Carolina Panther football fan. Most of all, he loved his family and they were very close. He loved hearing about his family's history and he enjoyed researching the family genealogy. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Kendall and Sidney Means. Surviving Mr. Means are his sister, Lanorma (William) Lindsay of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Vincent Tyrone Means of Marion; two uncles, Lester Carson of Gainesville, FL and Lawrence Carson of Rock Hill, SC; three aunts, Elizabeth Kincaid of Charlotte, NC, Mary Twitty of Marion, NC and Jacqueline Means of Morganton, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 12:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, NC. A visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
