Shirley V. Avery, 87, of Chipman Corner Road, Groton died October 15, 2016 at the Groton Health Care.
Born July 30, 1929 in Harvey's Lake, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Baer Sutton.
She graduated from Union Endicott Central and eventual married. Moving to Groton in 1964 she was employed with Smith Corona where she retired after many years, both in Groton and Cortland. She had enjoyed bowling, traveling and camping with her husband, Raymond Avery who died in 2010 and was a member of the Groton Community Church and recently recognized for her 50 years of service in the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Dale Greene of Groton, and Nancy (Rodney) Beattie of Dryden, her grandchildren, Richard Beattie and Melissa Greene, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and late husband she was predeceased by her 1st husband, Richard J. Greene in 1961.
Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016 at noon at the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St. Groton, with Rev. Chris Xenakis officiating. Interment will be in Groton Rural Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday 11:00 - 12:00 prior to the services at the Funeral Home.
