JOSEPH E. Adams ( son of William C. Adams and Moina Nevada White ) was my great grandfather.

JOSEPH and MARIA CATHERINE BRUENING Bruening were married until he was killed in Rock Island.

Their daughter was GERTRUCE Marie Adams # 110642250 who married Henry HERMAN LAAKE # 110642390 in Davenport.

Their last son WALTER John Laake was my father.

My family has been painstakingly doing research on our family for many years.

Obituary of John Joseph Adams

Found Dead;
Joe Adams of this city killed in Rock Island
A dead body was found in the upper C. R. I. & P. yards in Rock Island at about half past six this morning.The remains were not mutilated by car wheels, but there were indications that a violent death, probably by accident had occurred.
A small memorandum in the pocket of the clothing gave the name Joe Adams,1618 Leonard St., Davenport, Iowa. No one from this side of the river has yet viewed the body it is learned from Rock Island, but there is no doubt there or here that it is all that remains of Joe Adams, a young man of this city who has been quite well known here as a laborer, and was the son of WWILLIAM Adams.

He was somewhat under thirty years of age and was a wild character.

The dead man was seen at the Rock Island depot at 1A.M.Tuesday night. He was then deeply intoxicated. He left there and nothing was seen or known of him till his cold body was found by a track. It is imagined that he tried to climb a freight car in the yards and lost his hold and fell. There is a hole in his head and a cut above the left eye near the temple, both of which might have been produced in that way, and neither of which could have been produced by collision with an engine it is held.

An inquest was held at the rooms of Undertaker Knox this morning, and the verdict was that the victim came to his death from causes unknown to the jury.
The remains are still in Rock Island. Adams was married some time ago, and made his wife no end of trouble with his worthless habits and drunkenness.Some time ago she applied for divorce. She refused to have anything to do with his body, did not want it brought near her, and would not go to see it.It is learned that a brother of the deceased went over this afternoon to look after the remains.
