The son of Maj. Bert Cowden and Dora Lynn Chattwood Cowden. His life was cut short at the age of 12 only 12 days before Christmas in 1971. His father in a senseless act of familicide shot his mother, Duke and his three siblings in their sleep before turning the gun on himself.
