He was born Dec. 27, 1925, at Holy Family Hospital in LaPorte to Edward and Ethel (Dodd) Hannon.
John graduated from Westville High School and spent two years in the U.S. Army, a year in Italy where he played on a traveling basketball team called the Blue Devils. He was a supervisor for 36 years with Allis-Chalmers Implement Company, and retired from Wells Fargo Bank. John belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Over 40 Dance Club. His favorite singer was Dean Martin and his favorite actor, John Wayne. He also belonged to the American Legion of Indianapolis and was a past commander of Westville American Legion, Rhen Hilkert Post 21. He was a life member of St. Peter Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and eucharistic minister. John will be remembered as a kind man, father and husband who never knew a stranger.
On June 7, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Otis, IN, he married Agnes Yagelski. They enjoyed nearly 70 years of married life together.
John leaves behind his wife, Agnes; four daughters, Jacqueline (Alan) Niedziejko of LaPorte, Patricia (Greg) Shearer of Plymouth, IN, Kelly (Dante) Davis of Carmel, IN, and Michelle (Gary) Travis of LaPorte; two sons, Michael (Sally) Hannon and John (Judy) Hannon Jr., both of LaPorte; 11 grandchildren, Tony and Steven Niedziejko, Alica Paegel, Melanie Hannon, Kim Jesch, Dr. Nicole Roberson, Cory Hannon, Johna Snyder, Gina Lekarczyk, Darcy Davis, and Brandon Travis; and several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Jane Kemper and Margaret Hannon; and a brother, Joseph Hannon.
