John McGahey Henry was born in 1824 in Lawrence County, Alabama to William Henry and Mary Polly McGaughey Henry, both born in Tennessee. In an 1830 BLM Land Record his father William Henry sells land in AL to Samuel McGaughey. The family is in 1840 Census in Madison County MS. In 1843, William and Mary Henry sell land in Madison Co MS. John marries Anna Susan Lott about 1845 and they moved to Scott County MS. John McGahey Henry is Bondsman for his sister Margaret A. Henry marriage to Anna's brother Solomon Lott on Dec 29, 1845. John and Anna had four children Elizabeth A, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie", Sarah "Sallie" Henry and son Columbus Washington Henry. John and family were in 1860, 1870 and 1880 US Census MS. In 1880 census, John states that his parents were born in Tennessee. John M's wife, Anna died in 1884 and he then married Caroline "Callie" Shepard. John died May 7, 1902 per his military pension records. [Military Records: John served in the Civil War from Neshoba County, Mississippi with Sion P. Henry in the 33rd MS Infantry of the "Cumberland Guards" Company A, Confederate Army.]
