"Mrs. Mary E. Metcalf, widow of Victor I. Metcalf, formerly of Lowell, Vt., died Friday, May 3rd, in Broome Center after a short illness of bronchial pneumonia. Her daughter, Mrs. Hobart Pollock, cared for her tenderly all through her sickness. Every thing was done that could be done, but was to no avail. Our Great Master said 'Come,' and she smilingly followed her Master's call. Mrs. Metcalf was seventy years of age, having been born in Plattsburg, May 12th, 1864. She was the only daughter of Iziar Cooliage. Her mother died when she was eight years of age. On July 17th, 1880, she became the bride of Victor I. Metcalf, son of Ira Metcalf and Ruth Peasley Hodgeskein Metcalf, of Plattsburg, N. Y. To them eleven children were born, all but three having passed beyond. The surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Pollock of Lykers, two sons, Roy P. Metcalf of Canajoharie, and Otis L. Metcalf of Ayer, Mass., five grandchildren, Etta Alice Miles of Lykers, Mac, Robert and Rolland Metcalf of Ayer, Mass., Ruth Metcalf of Bridgewater, Mass, several cousins and distant relatives throughout Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York state ... The burial was in the family plot in the Valley cemetery at Sloansville ..." ["The Cobleskill Index" (Cobleskill, NY), May 23, 1935, Page 3]
