Charlene Sue (Deal) Hartman passed away peacefully on October 8, 2016 at Kavanagh House, Hospice of Central Iowa (HCI) Care Services.

Charlene was born May 24, 1937 to Ira Lincoln and Cecil Gay (McBratney) Deal in Bloomfield, Iowa. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1955.

Charlene married Dale LeRoy Hartman on January 20, 1957.

She stayed at home to care for her young children before working at The Potting Shed in St. Charles, Iowa for 5 years and then for Chem-Tech Ltd., Des Moines, Iowa for 19 years.

Charlene and Dale retired in 2000 and spent most of their time in St. Charles, Iowa and/or West Des Moines, Iowa and winter months in Florida. They were married for 59 years.

Charlene is survived by her sisters, Betty Jean Johnson of Fairfield, Iowa and Shirley Dianne Hamersley of Ottumwa, Iowa; children, Bryan Anthony (Joanne) Hartman of Mediapolis, Iowa, Dala Sue (Mike) Scoblic of Waukee, Iowa and Tracy Diane (Bruce) Imber of El Cajon, California; grandchildren, Toni Rene (Justin) Stone of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Trevor John (Ashlee) Hartman of Ramstein AFB, Germany, Holly Jo Morrow of Waukee, Iowa, Megan Sue Songer of Santa Cruz, California and Hunter Dane Imber of El Cajon, California; and nine great-grandchildren.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, Dale LeRoy Hartman; mother and father, Ira Lincoln and Cecil Gay Deal; sister, Virginia Miriam Daniels; brothers, Charles Frederick and Ira Max Deal.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Glen Oaks Country Club, West Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial service and burial will be held Noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Ottumwa, Iowa followed by a luncheon at Bridge View Center, Ottumwa, Iowa at 2:00 p.m.
