John Burga Dilday was the second child of Seth Dilday and Agnes Gentry. John married Nancy Caroline Archer in Gibson County, Indiana on 8 July 1841. They had six known children. At some point, John went into business with his brother Amos. They butchered and cured hogs during the winter, and each spring traveled the rivers south to New Orleans where they sold the pork. A family story states that John died as a result of Yellow Fever in New Orleans. There was an epidemic in the summer of 1853. The first record of his probate is in April of 1854. It is unknown where John was buried. He was likely buried in New Orleans along with other victims of this terrible epidemic.
