His mother, Wattie (not Wattle) (1928-2014) is buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Greenville, Butler County, Alabama (Find A Grave Memorial# 138883945). I have not yet found information on Joe's father, George Simmons Sr. There are two George Simmons who are also buried in the Mount Olive Cemetery, but I have not discovered any records that connect Joe Simmons to either of them.
Joe's maternal grandmother was Muzetta Murphy Moorer (1993-2009), who was the daughter of Charlie B Murphy (1901-1990) and Lora (or Lola) Gregory (1903- ).
