Edward was born August 27, 1930 in Joliet, Il, son of the late Edward Joseph Swanson and the late Delma Wesolowski Swanson. He served in the US Navy aboard USS Wisconsin BB64 during the Korean War. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #8502 St Anthonys Walterboro/Catholic Hill. He retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard after 37 years. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Carmelita Gatch Swanson; children: Deborah Swanson Early (Jack) of Potomac Falls, VA, Edward J. Swanson, III (Debbie) of Goose Creek, SC, Victoria Holloway of Beaufort, SC, Cynthia Swanson Miles (Stephen) of Unicoi, TN, James Anthony Swanson of North Potomac, MD, Joseph L. Swanson (Deborah) of Summerville, SC and John David Swanson (Jewel) of Charleston, SC; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers.
