Tommy Earl Ellis, 89, of Sophia, died Sunday, October 9, 2016.


Born April 8, 1927 in Mullens, WV, he was the son of the late Thomas Smith and Ida Mary Johnson Ellis.


Tommy was a retired coal miner for Eastern Associated Coal. He liked to stay busy. His hobbies included trading and working on cars. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle in Blacksburg, VA.


He is survived by his daughter, Dana Ayers and husband Gary of MacArthur; grandchildren, Scott Ayers and wife Jewel, Angela England and husband Ivan; great grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Ayers, Hannah Christian and husband Paul, Rachel Moore and husband James; sisters, June Blankenship and Janie Sweeney.


Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Monroe Greeley and Pastor Michael Casto officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Friday. A private family committal will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
