Verna Mae Just was born August 21, 2016 on the family farm outside of Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Helene (Hammer) Just.

Verna Mae was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Newell.

She attended school at Douglas Country School #1 in Sac County.

On August 26, 1947, Verna Mae was united in marriage to Dale L. Miller in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Together, the couple was blessed with three children: Melvin Dale, Dennis Lynn, and Lesa Marie.

Verna Mae was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newell where she served on the church circle and as a Sunday School Teacher and custodian for several years. She was an honorary member of the Newell American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
Verna Mae and Dale spent many years working hand-in-hand in their farming operation. She took great pride in her garden and flowers. Verna Mae enjoyed collecting items to decorate her house with. All those who knew Verna Mae will remember her personality and big heart.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dennis Miller of Lake View, Iowa; grandson, Eugene Miller; great grandchildren; brother-in-law, LeRoy Dirks of Fonda, Iowa; sisters: Nealma Rix of Fonda, Iowa; Helene Johnson of Lake City, Iowa; nieces and nephews; extended family and a host of friends.

Verna Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; infant daughter, Lesa Marie; son, Melvin Dale; sisters: Elnora Fitchett, Myrna Johnson, Donna Belle; brothers: Loren Just, Merlin Just, Norvin Just; and brothers-in-law: Allen Johnson, Edward Rix, Harry Johnson, and LeRoy Fitchett.
