Walter Lewis Newman, Jr., age 77, of Womelsdorf, PA and formerly of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, PA. Walter was born in Point Pleasant, NJ on April 17, 1939, and he was the son of the late Ethel and Walter Newman.

He was a resident of Lakewood for most of his life before moving to Womelsdorf 15 years ago. He was a longtime dedicated volunteer fireman for Lakewood Township Rescue Company No. 2. Walter was a Foreman for the Township of Lakewood for many years. He enjoyed meeting new people, spending time camping and being outdoors, and was an all around a lover of life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Emma of Womelsdorf, PA; a daughter, Mary Ann Vieau and her husband Michael of Indiana; five grandchildren, Jeannie, Howard, Ann Marie, Michael, and Melanie; and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Lakewood Hope Chapel Cemetery, Lakewood NJ.
