ROGER REED
1962 - 2016

Roger Lee Reed, 53, of Greenup, went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by family, October 13, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Roger was born October 28, 1962, in Ashland, a son of Helen Quillen Reed of York and the late John Milton Reed.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Bambi Lynn Fisher Reed, two sons, Crockett Lee Reed and fiancé Sara Elisabeth Hardin of South Shore and Wade Delaney Reed of Greenup, one daughter, Cassie Jo Reed of Greenup, one sister, Melissa and Jimmy Newsome of Malonton, four brothers, Keith and Terri Reed of Raceland, Claude and Leigh Ann Reed of Lloyd, Tom and Joetta Reed of Lloyd and Allen and Shelia Reed of Lloyd, and several nieces, nephews and friends that loved him.

Roger was a member of Greenup First Baptist Church. He was a 1980 graduate of Greenup County High School and a 1985 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He started his career as a funeral director at former Riggs Funeral Home in Greenup. After graduating from mortuary school he went on to work at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, before starting his own funeral home. He served on Greenup County Public Library Board for several years and Ashland Regional Airport Board for seven years.
He was a member of the Greenup Business Association, Greenup Lions Club and the Eastern Kentucky Funeral Directors Association for 30 years. Roger had his private pilot's license and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association for many years. He was a former member of various horse clubs and associations and served as president of several them. Roger coached many GCYSA soccer teams and several elementary and middle school basketball and soccer teams. Roger had a great love for Wyoming and Montana, where he had two of his favorite memories. In the summer of 2012, he rode his mule Eleanor through the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming and in the winter of 2009 he flew aerobatics in Butte, Montana. In May of 1986, Roger and Bambi opened Reed Funeral Home. Roger was only 23 years old. They married in September of 1986 and celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this year. Most important, he loved his family dearly and had a great love for the Lord. Roger experienced more in his 53 years than what most will in 90 years. His kids lways told him to "Wake up and fight" and that is what he did to the very end. Roger's wisdom and stories will forever be remembered. He will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Greenup, with Dr. Tom Melvin and Brother Wayne Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
