GILBERT's Story

GILBERT CLIFTON YOKUM
Services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Olive First Baptist Church for Gilbert Yokum. Pastor Tyler McDowell officiated. Interment followed at the Neugin Cemetery, Hulbert, Oklahoma at 3 p.m.. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Don Smith Funeral Home.
Gilbert was born September 26, 1927 in Hulbert, Oklahoma. He was reared by his grandfather, Robert Spears. Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946. On April 10, 1953, Gilbert and Betty Staats were united in marriage in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Olive Community, since moving there in 1988. After retiring from American Airlines, Gilbert continued his passion for farming and raising cattle. In addition to his grandfather, he was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Spears, children, Russell Lynn Yokum, Suzanne Wiese and G.W. Yokum; brothers, Luke Welch, Clarence Young and Arthur Sisney and one sister, Ruth Radford and his son-in-law, Jon Wiese. Gilbert died October 7, 2016 at the age of 89 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, of the home; his daughter, Sherry Lujan and husband, Stuart, Drumright; one sister, Beatrice Rabbit, Locust Grove; grandchildren, Seth Lujan, Sara Hedgcoth, Paige Wiese, Tori Wellman, Michael Wiese, Chandra Keener, Sheryl Gideon and four great-grandchildren.
The family has requested memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home, Oklahoma City, OK
