POWERS, Christopher John, Age 59, passed away in Centerville, Ohio on April 12, 2015. Chris, a life long resident of the greater Miami Valley area, was predeceased by his father, John C. Powers, and is survived by his daughter, Alicia Clark, mother, Constance Powers, brother Joseph, sisters Amy, Julene (Robert Willis) and Kathy Britton, nephew Jon Britton, niece Alexa Ortman and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Chris was employed by the Kettering school system for 15 years working with special needs students. A graduate of Fairmont East high school, Chris captained the 1973 Western Ohio League championship Falcon basketball team. Chris continued his basketball career at Sinclair Community College and University of Montana where he played for legendary collegiate coach Jud Heathcote. A natural born athlete, Chris was an avid golfer throughout his life. The family would like to invite Chris's friends and, especially, his students, to join them for a celebration of his life on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kettering American Legion Post 598, 5700 Kentshire Drive, Kettering, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kettering Backpack Program, an organization enthusiastically supported by Chris, which fights childhood hunger within Kettering City schools by supplying at-risk students with food each Friday during the school year to sustain their nutritional needs over the weekend.
