Jerry L. Haynes, Sr., 70, of Hamshire, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Riceland Medical Center, Winnie. He was born on January 19, 1946, in Carthage, to Minnie Lee Sturrock Haynes and Joseph Cullen Haynes, and had been a resident of Hamshire since 1996. Jerry was a United States Air Force veteran.

Jerry was one of the ten children coming from humble beginnings. He met his best friend and wife while in the Air Force, stationed in Dover, Delaware, in 1968. Jerry was a tremendous entrepreneur in the car business, real estate, restaurants, and heavy equipment/construction areas. The job he was most proud of was being the Godly head of our family. He taught his children God’s precious Word. Jerry stated “I am humbled that God would even take the time to talk to me”. When he opened God’s Word, God Spoke to him, in circumstance and though people. God spoke to him. His only desire was that his family and people he met would know Jesus as their Savior like he did. “Don’t cry for me. Celebrate. God blessed me with a great life and I couldn’t ask for more. Whether I stay or whether I go, it’s good either way.”

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Liz Haynes; son, Jerry Haynes, Jr. and his wife, Melody, of Warren; daughters, Ronda Burdick and her husband, Jeff, of Hamshire and Bobbie Moses and her husband, James, of Port Neches; grandchildren, Colton, Tyler, and Garrett Haynes, Mason and Travis Burdick, and David, Jerry, and Steven Thompson; great-grandchildren, Liberty, Korinne, Tatum, and James Thompson, and McKalib Bargainer; sisters, Ida Weigman and her husband, L.C., of Rusk; Mildred Havard, of Lumberton; and Armentha Lewelling, of Houston; and brother, Jimmy Haynes, of Lumberton.
