A memorial service will be held for Mildred "Milly" Mabbett Moss on Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Quimtan.
Milly passed away in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania on December from complications from a stroke.
Milly was born and grew up in Quitman. She was the daughter of Henry Frink Mabbett and Blanche Leigh Chapman Mabbett.
She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. During World War II, she worked as clerk typist for the War Department. At war's end, she volunteered for an administrative position in the military occupation of Japan. It was there she met her future , Lon Harold Moss.
Milly and Harold raised their two sons in the Washington, DC area and for 5 years lived in Paris, France when Harold held a position at the American embassy. After Harold's retirement, they lived for nearly twenty-five years in Cross Junction, ?Virginia. In 2001, Milly and Harold moved to Washington County Pennsylvania to be close to family. Harold passed away in 2004.
She is survived by a son of Evening Shade, Arkansas and a son of Reno, Nevada and granddaughter of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and a grandson of Torrance, California.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Henry Frink Mabett, Jr, who died in infancy, Dr Joseph Sheldon Mabbett who died in 1974, and Blanche Mabbett Ferguson who died in 1984.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman and alongside her parents, sister and brothers.
