Mr. Maxwell came to Whidbey Island from Seattle at the age of 13 with his family. On December 13, 1912 he married Henrietta Fisher in Seattle. He earned his Chief Engineer's License when he was 23 years old and worked for many years in steamboating around Puget Sound and in Alaska. Later he worked in ship yards and oil fields in California. When he retired he settled on Whidbey Island.

He was survived by his wife, Henrietta; two sons, David F. Maxwell of Coupeville and Major John D. Blankenship with the U.S. Army in Vietnam; and a sister, Mrs. Ruby Ward of Oakland.
