Larry Franklin Hinchen was born on New Years Day 1933 to Dennis Samuel Hinchen and Ruth Pearl Bradshaw in Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington. He was the youngest of three boys born to the couple.

Larry enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Korea from 1953 through 1955.

Larry attended Central Washington State College and played basketball.

He married Jean Ethel Hulett in 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaview, Washington. They had five children; Anne Marie, Catherine Jean, Thomas William, Barbara Joan, and Elizabeth Ann.

He taught physical education courses at Centralia College from 1965 through his retirement in 1989. Larry also taught recreation classes including hiking, cross country skiing, canoeing, and backpacking which often included his children. He was an avid mountain climber and reached the peaks of all the major Cascade summits in California, Oregon, and Washington, including Mt. Rainier. Larry enjoyed playing golf and running marathons.

During his 24 years at Centralia College, Larry coached basketball, baseball, track, wrestling, and volleyball. He received many individual honors throughout his coaching career, including his selection into the Centralia College Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

Larry is survived by his wife Jean and daughters Anne (Kevin) Mukhar, Catherine (Greg) Bergquist, Barbara (Mike) Maxwell, and Elizabeth; son Thomas (Mary Krause) Hinchen, Sr.

Known as "Papa" to seven grandchildren, Thomas Hinchen Jr, Jeffrey Bergquist, Christine Mukhar, Sarah Hinchen, Stephen Maxwell, Brian Hinchen, and Alison Maxwell.

Larry is also survived by his brother Cecil Hinchen and wife Alexandra (Nee Johnston).
