He will be remembered as a devoted family man. He retired from Missouri State Grain Inspection in 1981 and previously had worked for General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant; however, he was always a farmer at heart - a man with a strong respect for the earth and the environment. He found in a nature a sense of orderliness, a will, a sense of relationship..in the last analysis nothing more difficult than accepting the laws of nature as they are manifested all about us every day.
His beloved wife of 62 years, Irene, predeceased him in June 2000. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Clell Bellis, and sister, Lydia Smith.
Survivors include two sons; Merle Bellis and wife Margie, of Sun City, Arizona, Raymond Bellis and wife, Margaret of Rayville, MO; and one daughter, C. Virginia Cook of Sun City, Arizona; seven grandchildren; Michael Bellis, Marena Smith, Raymond Bellis, Jr., Daniel Bellis, Myra Barker, Ronda Barrett and Johnna Cook; nine great-grandchildren: Michelle, Jonathan, Jacob, Katelyn, Alexis, Kyle, Nicole, Marcus and T. J.; and one great-great grandchild, Brian.~~
