Henry Gehring was a prominent lace manufacturer. He had been associated with the Rhode Island textile industry since 1923 and was president of the Linwood Lace Works, Inc. and the Gehring Laces of Rhode Island, Inc.

Mr. Gehring and his wife, Josephine, lived in West Warwick, RI. They had recently purchased another home at Bonnet Shores, RI. They were the parents of two sons, John J. and Edward; and two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Melloh and Miss Grace Gehring.

The son, Lt. John J. Gehring, was killed in 1944 while serving in the China-Burma-India theater of operation with the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Gehring died in his compartment on the New York - Washington train. He was en-route to Washington to meet with a sculptor who had been working on a bust of late son, Edward, who was killed in an Azores plane crash the previous year.
