Royce J. Smith, 86, of South Bloomingville, passed from this life into the arms of His Heavenly Father at 12:02 a.m., on Monday, October 10, 2016, under Hospice care at Genesis HealthCare in Circleville, Ohio. He was born July 31, 1930 in Hocking County to Forrest J. and Nellie (Disbennett) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray, Clarence, and Melvin; and sister, Ruby. Royce is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna J. (Hampshire) Smith, children; Trudy (Richard) Dolby, Michael J. “Mick” (Vivian) Smith, Todd Smith and his fiancé Erin Francis, grandchildren; Robert (Shelly) Dolby, Kelly (Jason) Snyder, Michael “Mike” (Rachael) Smith, Erica (Eric) Neff, Tara (Ben) Schlichter, Ashley (Craig) Puckett; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Royce honorably served his country during the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. After his discharge, he spent the majority of his working years at the State of Ohio Transportation Department, where he was recognized as employee of the year in 1993. He retired after 48 years of hard work and dedication. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and tinkering around at home. He mostly enjoyed spending time and creating memories with his beloved family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville with burial to follow at Green Summit Cemetery, with military honors. Pastor Danny Minton will be officiating the service. Friends may call the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Heartland Hospice, 116 Morris Road, Circleville, OH 43113.
