Lewis Maldon Grant 1921~2016

Graveside services for Lewis Maldon Grant, 94 year-old Huntsville, AL and former Bend, OR resident will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Liberty Cemetery in Fay, OK with Kason Oakes of the Watonga Church of the Nazarene officiating. Lewis, the seventh of ten children, was born October 10, 1921 to Lewis Elisha and Bessie Isabel (Sutton) Grant and passed away August 29, 2016, having reached the age of 94 years, 10 months and 19 days. He attended school in the Fay-Watonga area. As a young man, Lewis helped his dad on a 360-acre farm where they raised wheat, row crops and tended 30 head of cattle including milk stock. He worked building and repairing houses, fences and barns. Lewis joined the Army on August 24, 1942 serving in World War II from September 12, 1942 to November 16, 1945 where he was honorably discharged. While in the service, he worked as a teletype and radio operator, something he always said someone had to talk him into doing because he wouldn't have taken the incentive to do on his own. His daughter, Debbie isn't sure what the teletype job entailed but a man who helped her file his VA papers told her, "he is a very smart man." He married Sylvia Janette Davis on October 26, 1950 and they had three children. He later married Marie Ellen (Barnes) Brown on March 8, 1962. They made their homes in Denver, CO, Bend, OR, and Watonga, OK just to name a few. After his retirement, he continued to keep busy mowing lawns, cutting wood and serving others in need. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie; his children, Maldon Ray Grant, Deborah Lynn (Grant) Durden and Terry Michael Grant, all of Huntsville, AL; John Ross Loewen of Watonga, OK; step-son, Mark Anthony Brown of LaPine, OR; eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Bessie Grant, and his nine sisters.
