After high school he enlisted in the US Army. After the Army, he remained in the Sacramento area working odd jobs. In 1969 Gene moved to Palm Springs, Calif., where he married Pamela Jean Meyer and became father to Traci and Paul Meyer.
Gene worked at the Desert Water Agency and Grey Line Bus Tours before taking a position as an Operator for the Palm Springs Waste Water Treatment Plant, where he retired in 1999. In 2002, Gene and Pam moved to Parowan, Utah. In Utah he enjoyed fishing, riding ATV's and helping his daughter and son-in-law on their ranch.
Those who knew Gene recall that he was very easy going; he enjoyed good conversations and telling jokes. He had many friends and knew no strangers. He loved all animals and they loved him too.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Pamela, in 2008, and his son Paul Meyer in 1993. He is survived by his daughter Traci and many other family, friends and pets who will miss him dearly.
Arrangements are under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. A memorial service is planned for this Spring in the Parowan Cemetery. www.sumortuary.com
