Powell, Laura W.,

was a feisty little red-headed lady, who went to visit the Lord on October 9, 2016 surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. She was the third child of Gabriel and Florinda Camara who will be waiting to greet her in Heaven along with her brother, Erling. Her husband, Henry Lee, will also be waiting to take her on a motorcycle ride in Heaven. As a young girl, she always helped the nuns and priests. Before getting married, she planned on becoming a nun.

She was a member of the Incarnation Church, a Eucharist minister and had many friends there. She also volunteered at the church picnic and helped with many other activities at the church. She was a member and past president at Millcreek VFW 5421 on Lower Hunters Trace, and volunteered with the Junior Girls for which her granddaughter was a past member. She made it a point to go weekly and visit the men and women who served our country at the Veterans hospital. She volunteered for the Red Cross, among many other organizations. She earned her black belt in Karate at age 40, learned to ride a motorcycle at age 50, and learned to shoot a gun at age 65! Everyone who knew Laura will miss her as she was a person who would give you the last dollar she had.

Laura is survived by two daughters, Florence Berg and Theresa Massie (Paul); seven grandchildren, Chris Hall, Eric Hall, Carolynn Sinks (Jeremy), Patrick Berg, Kerry Massie (Christina), Tony Massie and Lori Massie; nine great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Hall, Alexandria Hall, Kaleb Hall, Rylee Hall, Eli Hall, Aaron Sinks, Ciara Massie, Sara Hurst and Joann Hurst; her brother, Lionel Camara (Liz); her sister, Priscilla Soares; her brother-in-law, James Powell (Mary); and many nieces and nephews, as well as many very close friends.

Her funeral mass will be 10am Friday, October 14th, at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2229 Lower Hunters Trace, with interment following in Highland Memory Gardens. Please come and visit Laura on Wednesday from 4pm until 8pm and Thursday from 1pm until 8pm at the Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, and don't forget, she always said, "I'm gonna tell it like it is!"
